Deborah Childs-Bowen

Deborah Childs-Bowen is a senior consultant with Learning Forward and a national leader in developing principals and assistant principals as learning leaders in their schools. She has more than 25 years of experience in education management supporting instructional leadership, results-based professional learning, and school improvement initiatives. She leads efforts to support new teacher induction and retention in high-needs schools, and has developed an Instructional Leadership Academy for Aspiring School Leaders. She works with systems to support the creation and implementation of professional learning communities that focus on improved teaching and student learning. Deborah spent 10 years with SERVE, one of the U.S. Department of Education’s regional educational research laboratory network providers, where her major areas of concentration were urban education; advancing teaching quality through teacher leadership and professional development. She is a former classroom teacher, principal, researcher and district director of professional development. She is most recently the co-author of The Principal Influence: A Framework for Developing Leadership Capacity in Principals (ASCD, 2016).
